Imagine coming home to a garden filled with blooming red geraniums and having your walkway lined with even bigger pots of salmon geraniums. Nothing strange with that, right? Of course not. But at one time though it’s hard to believe geraniums were weeds. Geraniums have always been popular to add splashes of vibrant color to East Coast gardeners; although it wasn’t until after World War II geraniums hit it big on the West Coast. And that’s when Tony Andrade and his wife, Mary Lou first started their nursery, Grand View Geranium Gardens. Today it’s one of the biggest growers of geraniums on the West Coast!

Tony, son of a cut flower grower and always interested in growing, and Mary Lou, who was not interested at all, started their business in 1954 on 10 acres in Carson, California. Growing geraniums was a very different business from today. Millions of cuttings were being shipped via air freight to customers in the Mid West and to the East Coast who in turn potted them and sold them as finished product. This arrangement lasted for about 20 years.

In 1978, Tony noticed the cuttings business starting to slip, mostly because air freight was getting way too expensive. The geranium business, which was now booming on the West Coast had become a potting business and Grand View was in place to step in and maintain its leadership position.

Grand View offers more varieties than any other grower. We continue to offer an array of Zonals, Ivies, Martha Washington’s and scented varieties. Grand View continually receives requests from landscapers for different varieties and we pride ourselves in having them available. Special requests usually come from City Parks and Las Vegas casino landscapers. In 1980 Grand View hooked up with large outlets such as Home Depot, Costco, Sam's Club and Wal-Mart.

Today the nursery is thriving. Tony is quick to give credit to his large family of seven and to the devoted employees, who make things bloom!! Geraniums have become big business for Grand View. Serving the industry with over fifty years of experience is a pleasure from our family to yours.
